What does an office clearance cover?
An office clearance covers everything in an office that is not moving to the new address. That is usually more than the workstations alone.
- desks, sit-stand desks, office chairs and meeting tables
- archive cabinets, lockers, shelving and pedestals
- the kitchenette: fridge, microwave, crockery, coffee machine
- IT: screens, computers, printers, cables
- partition screens, plants, decoration and whiteboards
- the archive room or storage space
Clearing an office for a move, a lease end or a refit
The reason for the clearance sets the schedule. When a company moves to a smaller office, part of the furniture goes along and the rest has to go, often in the days after the move. At the end of a lease the office must be empty for the exit inspection and the return of the badges and keys. Before a refit, the space must be clear when the contractor starts.
We match the clearance to that date and to how your company works. Let us know whether the building has rules for deliveries, the goods lift or the loading dock.
How does an office clearance work?
An office clearance follows the same steps as a house clearance, with more arrangements up front. You send photos of each space or a floor plan with the furniture layout, the surface area and the floor. A quote follows.
For the day itself we fix what goes and what stays, with a list, a plan or stickers on the furniture. Desks and cabinets are dismantled where needed, and everything leaves in separate streams. Afterwards the rooms are empty and swept.
What happens to office furniture and IT?
Office furniture in good condition gets a second life wherever possible through second-hand and social circuits. What cannot be reused is separated into wood, metal and residual waste. Electrical and electronic equipment goes to a registered recycling stream for waste electrical and electronic equipment.
Computers, laptops and hard drives can contain company data. Wipe them yourself or have your IT partner do it before the clearance, or keep the drives apart. We remove what you give us, but we do not wipe data.
Archives and confidential papers
Archives need attention. Invoices, personnel files and contracts often have a legal retention period, and what may go sometimes holds sensitive data. Decide in advance which boxes must be kept and which may be destroyed.
For confidential papers, use a company that carries out certified document destruction. Ordinary documents without sensitive data can go with the paper recycling.
What does an office clearance cost?
An office clearance is always priced on quote, because offices differ too much. A practice with four workstations has nothing in common with a floor full of desks, archive cabinets and a server room. The quote depends on the volume, the floor, the lift or goods lift, the distance to the loading area and the share of electronics.
Send photos or a floor plan with the town and the date. What sets the price of a clearance in general is on house clearance prices.
Office clearance in Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent
Most office buildings stand in the big cities and the business parks around them: the North district and the European quarter in Brussels, Berchem and the Kiel in Antwerp, the Kortrijksesteenweg and the ring in Ghent, and the parks along the ring around Leuven. In a city centre the loading bay is usually the biggest challenge.
The pages on house clearance in Brussels and Antwerp explain how the loading bay is requested there. For a warehouse or storage unit next to the office, see warehouse clearance.
Frequently asked questions
Can you work while our company is still open?
That depends on the office. If it concerns part of a floor, we can plan around your work. Discuss it with the quote, together with the building's rules.
Do we get an invoice in the company name?
Yes, you receive an invoice in your company's name, with your VAT number.
Do you wipe the data on computers?
No, we do not wipe data. Have hard drives and laptops wiped by your IT partner, or keep them apart before the clearance starts.
Do you also remove partitions and fitted cupboards?
Loose partitions and furniture, yes. Anything fixed to the building, such as built-in cupboards or suspended ceilings, belongs to a strip-out or refurbishment company. Mention it with the photos and we tell you what is possible.
