Loading bay for the truck in Antwerp

In Antwerp you request a temporary parking ban online, at least 5 working days before the start. An urgent request is possible up to 2 working days ahead, before 9 am, but not if a lift will also stand on the pavement. The city places the signs itself two days ahead and records which cars are already parked; placing your own signs is not allowed.

Clearing a home in Antwerp's city centre

In the centre and the 19th-century belt around it, homes are narrow and tall, with a cellar, a steep staircase and an attic under the tiles. The streets of the old core are narrow, and part of them is a pedestrian or low-traffic zone. A truck may only enter with access permission requested from the city in advance, using the number plate we give you.

In the Diamond district, the police must give permission first, and only then can the parking ban be requested. On the Eilandje the streets were narrowed during the redevelopment, so a free loading bay is needed there too. Take those steps in time and the clearance is done in one day.

Apartment clearance in Antwerp: the Leien, the Left Bank and the Kiel

Many Antwerp residents live in a flat: on the Leien, in the towers of the Left Bank, on the Kiel or above a shop in Borgerhout. An apartment clearance there means agreements with the syndic about the lift and the cellar storage, and often a ladder lift against the facade.

One practical detail for the Left Bank: large trucks use the Kennedy tunnel, because the Waasland tunnel is closed to heavy vehicles. Everything about clearing a flat is on apartment clearance.

Leaving Antwerp: port, diamonds and universities

Antwerp's international residents work in the port and its chemical cluster, in the diamond trade, at the university and the hospitals. When a contract ends, the flat often has to be empty within weeks, after the movers have collected what is being shipped.

Plan the clearance between the shipment and the move-out inspection, and report your departure at the city before you leave. The steps are in clearing your home when leaving Belgium.

Markets and events: choosing the right day

On market days there are stalls where the truck would otherwise load. In the Antwerp district there is a market on the Sint-Jansplein on Wednesday and Friday, on the Oudevaartplaats at the weekend and on the Dageraadplaats on Thursday. In Hoboken the Kioskplaats has a market on Monday and Saturday mornings, in Merksem the Sint-Franciscusplein on Tuesday morning.

If you live on such a square, choose another day. The city's parking-ban service is also closed on public and bridge holidays, so do not count those days in the lead time.

What does a house clearance in Antwerp cost?

For a whole home in Antwerp, a house clearance usually costs between €900 and €2,500; for one space such as a cellar or attic, between €250 and €600. A flat on the eighth floor with a small lift or a townhouse with three flights of stairs moves towards the top of the range.

You receive a fixed price from photos; see house clearance prices. For business premises in the port area or on the Kiel, see warehouse clearance.

Who requests the parking ban in Antwerp?

You request it online from the city. We give you the length, the date and, for a pedestrian zone, the truck's number plate.

Can you also clear a house just outside Antwerp?

Yes, in towns such as Mortsel, Edegem, Kontich, Schoten or Brasschaat too. There you request the loading bay from that municipality, with its own rules.
