Loading bay for the truck in Ghent
In Ghent you apply online, with itsme or your eID, for a permit to occupy the public domain. If the truck stays in the parking lane, at least 15 days ahead; if the road, cycle path or pavement is needed too, at least 26 days ahead. For now you place the signs yourself, no later than 48 hours before the start; for occupations starting after 1 January 2027 the city will place them.

Townhouses and beluiken: house clearance in Ghent
In the 19th-century belt around the centre of Ghent stand townhouses with a cellar, three floors and an attic under a narrow staircase. Ghent also still has more than a hundred beluiken: rows of small workers' houses behind a passage or gate, where no truck can get in. Everything there is carried by hand to the street.
In such a home, access decides more than volume. A wardrobe that will not pass the gate is dismantled inside. Send a photo of the passage or gate as well.
Loading bay in Ghent: apply early
Ghent asks for longer lead times than most cities: at least 15 days for the parking lane, and 26 days when the pavement or road is needed, for example for a ladder lift. Fix the clearance date early and apply as soon as it is set.
In the car-free centre the rules of the circulation plan apply as well. We tell you with the price how long the zone must be. An overview for Ghent, Antwerp, Brussels and Leuven is in the parking permit guide.
Student houses and rented flats
Ghent is a university city, and many townhouses have been divided into rooms and studios. When an owner renovates or sells such a building, ten rooms often have to be emptied at once: beds, desks, wardrobes and whatever previous tenants left behind. That is a clearance in its own right.
International researchers and PhD students at Ghent University usually rent a flat for the length of their contract. When they leave, the flat must be empty before the move-out inspection; see clearing your home when leaving Belgium. For an ordinary rented flat, apartment clearance explains the syndic and the handover.
What does a house clearance in Ghent cost?
A house clearance in Ghent usually costs between €900 and €2,500 for a whole home and between €250 and €600 for one full space. A beluik house is small but hard to reach; a townhouse is easy to reach but large. Both factors are in the price.
You receive the price in advance, based on photos of every space. How it is set is on house clearance prices.
